Edgewood-based Lorraine Gregory Communications will host a community blood drive with the New York Blood Center on Thursday, Sept. 11, in observance of the National Day of Service and Remembrance. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the company’s headquarters at 95-A Executive Drive.

Created to commemorate the lives lost in the Sept. 11 attacks, the National Day of Service and Remembrance encourages Americans to engage in acts of kindness and volunteerism. Lorraine Gregory Communications will mark the occasion by facilitating blood donations, offering the community an opportunity to give back in a direct way that can save lives.

“We chose Sept. 11 to host one of our annual blood drives because of its deep significance,” said Greg Demetriou, CEO of Lorraine Gregory Communications. “As a National Day of Service and Remembrance—and a day I will never forget—it’s a chance to honor, remember and give back in a meaningful way.”

One pint of blood can save up to three lives, according to the New York Blood Center.

To donate, individuals must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with a signed parental consent form, and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors should feel well and be free of symptoms, eat a healthy meal beforehand and stay hydrated. A valid photo ID is required at check-in.
